Black History Conference Invitation 2019

Each February, the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board organizes a Black History Conference as a forum for students of all cultures to learn, celebrate and embrace the past, present and future contributions of the Black communities in Canada.  This year we will be renaming the conference to Black Futures Symposium where the focus will be on the exchange of ideas about the Black experience and how it relates to Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board and the broader community. The symposium will emphasize how the experiences of the Black community relates to all cultures and can help inform and evolve our concepts of equity while moving our society forward towards breaking systemic barriers for all.

This year’s theme for our Symposium is “Human Dignity, Human Rights: Living as Joyful Disciples” which is inspired by the Catholic Education Week theme for 2019 is “Living as Joyful Disciples.” Our mission as a Catholic school board is to help to form joyful disciples as hearts and minds are opened to the transforming love of God and to be the flame of faith in action. The conference seeks to call all people, especially our students, to be united in a mission of compassion and love for one another. Through this theme, our hope is that all of our students will have an opportunity to gather in Christ’s presence in an atmosphere of trust and equality, to share and learn from the lived experiences of Black Canadians.
