On September 21 and 22, 2023 the Mapping Ontario’s Black Archives (MOBA) Team co-produced Artists and Archivists in Dialogue (AAD), a Social Sciences Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Connection Grant-funded two-day speaker series and creative showcase that was held at Toronto Metropolitan University’s ILC and Toronto’s Tranzac Club. Refashioning Canada (2023)

In 2023, I had to pivot away from curating Black History Month events, and in collaboration with Caron Phinney, faculty in the School of Fashion, I curated a window exhibit at The Creative School to coincide with my feature article in Canada’s History titled, “Refashioning Canada.” From February 13 to February 28, 2023, the Refashioning Canada: Past and Future window display paired Black fashion history with current Black fashion designers at The Creative School. BHM @ The Creative School (2020-2022)

Between 2020 and 2022, I curated Black History Month events at Toronto Metropolitan University. Prior to these events, there were no Black History Month celebrations at The Creative School. Today, I continue Black History Month celebrations through my digital platform, Mapping Ontario’s Black Archives, where there is community support, collaboration, and engagement that is about creating safe and encouraging Black spaces.

Talking Black Studies (2022)

On February 28, 2022 I co-curated a fireside chat featuring Black faculty and allies at Toronto Metropolitan University who were teaching courses in the Black Studies minor, set to launch in Fall 2022 for which I co-established. As a show of community, I co-produced these videos to illustrate the interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary conversations that capture the range of Black experiences in Canada, the US, Caribbean, and Africa.

Black in Motion (2021)

In 2021, I served as director of the Studio for Media Activism and Critical Thought (SMACT) and for Black History Month, I moderated two virtual discussions. The first was with visual artist, community activist, researcher, youth-advocate and educator Syrus Marcus Ware; Tamika Walker, who works with children and youth diagnosed with Autism; Taylor Lindsay-Noel, entrepreneur, motivational speaker, podcast host, and disability advocate; and multidisciplinary Black MAD artist, activist, and mental health advocate Gloria C. Swain. Two days later, the other discussion was with Shonna Foster, an award-winning director, producer and storyteller and Ayat Salih, a Sudanese artist and Media Production student. Black Arts, Culture & Heritage (2020)

In 2020, I co-curated an evening of events featuring a moderated discussion, followed by a rich array of inspired student performances. The panel discussion was joined by leaders at the forefront of Black activism including Karen Carter, Mark Campbell and Tamla Matthews. The event showcased the unique artistic expressions of students and created an inclusive space for Black artists and academics to share their work.
